TARIQ TEACHES ALLAH’S NAME:
Al-Quddoos – The Clean & Pure
Allah is the One Who is completely clean and pure. He doesn’t have any flaws or dirtiness. He cleans the earth with rain and wind, and teaches us to be clean, giving us soap to wash away dirt, wudu to remove sins, and the Quran to purify our hearts.
Pure means that Allah doesn’t have any flaws, and clean means He doesn’t have any dirtiness. As people, we get dirty in many ways, but Allah never gets dirty! Sometimes our mouths can be dirty with lies, our minds with mean thoughts or forgetfulness, our hearts with jealousy, or our actions with sins and bad behavior… but Allah is free from all of these things because He is Al-Quddoos, The Clean & Pure!
LEARN TO SAY ALLAH’S NAME, “AL-QUDDOOS”
Allah doesn’t have any dirtiness in any way. There are lots of ways to be dirty. For example, if we play outside in the hot sun, our clothes and skin can get very sweaty and stinky. When we eat, our teeth get dirty and need to be brushed. When we go to the bathroom, we have to clean filth from our bottoms.
We get dirty all the time and need to do different things to keep ourselves clean. But Allah never gets dirty in anyway. He is not like us. He is very special and He is the only one who is always clean in every way!
Can you think of some ways that you get dirty?
Dirty Speech & Dirty Actions!
There are other ways to be dirty, too! Sometimes, our speech becomes dirty when we don’t tell the truth or if we say mean things about people, call names or say bad words. Also, our actions, the things we do, can be dirty, too! When we do bad things like take stuff without asking (stealing), hit our friends or siblings, write or draw mean things, drop trash on the ground or be cruel to animals… these are all ways our actions become unclean. But Allah’s words are always clean and good, and His actions are always clean and good. Allah never lies and He never treats people badly, that why He is Al-Quddoos, The Clean and Pure!
Our Hearts Can Get Dirty, Too!
When our words and actions are unclean, it can make our hearts dirty, too! When your heart is dirty, it is filled with bad feelings. You may feel jealous when your friends have nice toys and you don’t. Instead of being happy for them, you get mad and wish they didn’t have that toy at all! Jealousy can make our hearts really yucky! A dirty heart might also feel selfish and not like to share with others. A dirty heart can also be arrogant and make you feel like you are better than other people, so you treat them badly. Yucky, dirty hearts don’t make for very nice people.
Allah teaches us many ways to clean ourselves. First, to clean our bodies, we know to take baths, brush our teeth, comb our hair, clip our fingernails and so on. But how do we clean our “speech?” And what about cleaning our “actions” and most importantly, our “hearts?
First, Allah loves when we have good, clean speech. So to have clean words, we need to avoid saying things that are bad. Lies are dirty, so we should always tell the truth. Saying mean things about people is dirty, so we should say nice things instead and if we don’t have anything nice to say, we should stay quiet.
Allah doesn’t expect us to be perfect. Remember, He is the only one whose words are perfectly clean all the time… so when we do say bad things, Allah teaches how to wash the dirty speech away! Second, Allah loves when we have clean, pure actions. To have clean actions, we have to avoid doing things that are bad. Stealing is bad, so we should always ask permission before we take something. Pushing and hitting is bad, so we should always play nice and be kind to people.
Allah doesn’t expect us to be perfect. Remember, He is the only one whose actions are always clean and pure… so when we do bad things, Allah teaches us ways to wipe those dirty actions away! Look at the chart below to learn the difference between clean and dirty actions + ways to wipe dirty actions away!
LEARN TO SAY “BISMILLAAH”
Third, Allah loves when we have good, clean hearts. To have clean hearts, we have to clean up our speech and actions AND practice our religion, Islam, in the right way. Clean hearts are filled with good feelings of love, happiness, and gratitude… so when we have bad thoughts or mean feelings we should wash them away with good thoughts, speech and actions instead.
