It is narrated in the Sunan of at-Tirmidhi that the Prophet (S) said that Allah ta’ala Says:
“O My servants, all of you are misguided except those that I guide, so seek My guidance and I will guide you. And all of you are poor except those that I made rich, so ask Me for sustenance. And all of you are sinners except those that I pardoned, so whoever of you knows that I possess the power of forgiveness, then asked Me for forgiveness, then I have forgiven him, and I do not mind. And if the first of you and the last of you and your living and your dead and your strong and your weak were all to unite on the heart of the most pious slave of My slaves, this would not have added to My kingdom the wing of a mosquito.
«And if the first of you and the last of you and your living and your dead and your strong and your weak were all to unite on the heart of the most wretched slave of My slaves, this would not have subtracted from My kingdom the wing of a mosquito. And if the first of you and the last of you and your living and your dead and your strong and your weak were all to come together in one clearing, then each person of you asked for what would fulfill his desires, then I gave to each asker of you what he asked for, this would not have diminished My kingdom except as if one of you passed by the sea then dipped a needle into it then lifted it to himself.… That is because I am Magnanimous, Exalted, I do whatever I wish…..”
Explanation of the Name, Al-Jawwaad, from Sheikh as-Sa’di:
All of these Names are close in meaning and all of point to describing the Lord with mercy, generosity and kindness. The point to the great expanse of His mercy and gifts that encompass all that is in existence., being granted in accordance to the dictates of His wisdom. The believers have been specifically singled out for this and they are granted a goodly (reward) and the best portion of this as Allah said,
<<My mercy encompasses all things and I shall decree it for those who have taqwa,>> [ Al-A’raf 7:156]
All blessings and the various aspects of beneficence are from the effects of His mercy, generosity and kindness just as all beneficence in this world and in the Hereafter is from the effects of His mercy.

Explanation of Al-Jawwaad from the book, “Who is Allah?“:
Allah (the Exalted) is very generous, giving, benevolent and noble. Another hadith gives further proof of His magnanimity:
«My servants, I have made oppression unlawful for Me and unlawful for you, so do not commit oppression against one another. My servants, all of you are liable to err except one whom I guide on the right path, so seek right guidance from Me so that I should direct you to the right path. O My servants, all of you are hungry (needy) except one whom I feed, so beg food from Me, so that I may give that to you. O My servants, all of you are naked (need clothes) except one whom I provide garments, so beg clothes from Me, so that I should clothe you. O My servants, you commit error night and day and I am there to pardon your sins, so beg pardon from Me so that I should grant you pardon. O My servants, you can neither do Me any harm nor can you do Me any good. O My servants, even if the first amongst you and the last amongst you and even the whole human race, and that of the jinn as well, become (equal in) God-consciousness like the heart of a single person amongst you, nothing would add to My power.
«O My servants, even if the first amongst you and the last amongst you, and the whole human race and that of the jinn as well, in unison become the most wicked, (all beating) like the heart of a single person, it would cause no loss to My power. O My servants, even if the first amongst you and the last amongst you and the whole human race and that of the as well, all stand on one open plain and you ask Me, and I confer upon every person what he asks for, it would not, in any way, cause any loss to Me (more) than that which is caused to the ocean by dipping a needle into it. My servants, what is for you I shall reward you for it, so if anyone whose deeds I am recording finds good, they should praise Allah and those who do not find that should not blame anyone but their own selves.» (Muslim)
Allah is above seeking revenge or being resentful; rather He is generous in forgiving, unselfish and gracious.
Knowing that Allah (the Exalted) is Magnanimous shows His servants the excellence of magnanimity and generosity. They look at their life and see the wonderful things that Allah (the Exalted) has given to them, and they hope for even more wonderful things to come in paradise as a result of Allah’s magnanimity. They realize that they need to implement this characteristic in their own lives with those around them, and they know that they will be rewarded generously for doing so.

Explanation of Allah’s Name, Al-Jawwaad – from IslamQA.com:
Al-Jawaad (Magnanimous) is one of the names of Allaah, as is indicated in the Sunnah. Al-Bayhaqi narrated in Shu’ab al-Eemaan and Abu Na’eem narrated in al-Hilyah from Talhah ibn ‘Ubayd-Allaah and Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah is Magnanimous (Jawaad) and loves magnanimity, and He loves high morals, and He hates low morals.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’ no. 1744.
Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in al-Nooniyyah:
He is the most Magnanimous and His magnanimity encompasses all of creation with bounty and kindness
He is the most Magnanimous and He does not turn away anyone who asks, even if he is from a kaafir nation.
Shaykh al-Sa’di said in al-Tafseer (5/299): al-Rahmaan (the most Compassionate), al-Raheem (the most Merciful), al-Barr (the Benign) al-Kareem (the most Generous) al-Jawaad (the Magnanimous) al-Ra’oof (the most Kind) al-Wahhaab (the Bestower) – these are all names that are close in meaning, and they all indicate that the Lord has the attributes of mercy, kindness, magnanimity and generosity, and that His mercy and giving encompass all of creation as decreed by His wisdom, and that the believers enjoy the greater part of that. End quote.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said when listing the names of Allaah: From the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) we learn the names: al-Jameel (the Beautiful), al-Jawaad (the Magnanimous) al-Hakam (the Arbiter) al-Hayy (the Ever Living). End quote from al-Qawaa’id al-Muthlaa.
