Explanation of Ash-Shaakir from Islam Q & A:

Al-Shaakir (the Grateful), al-Shakoor (the Appreciative). He is the One Who appreciates the smallest deed, and forgives the greatest mistakes. He multiplies beyond measure the deeds of those who are sincere; He appreciates those who give thanks to Him, and He remembers those who remember Him. Whoever draws near to Him with something of righteous deeds, He draws near to him by more than that.

Explanation of the Name, Ash-Shaakir, from

Honorable brothers, the first fact in this topic: Any good deed presented to any creature no matter what; whether animate or inanimate, Allâh the Almighty will reward whoever makes it in this life and in the afterlife. And any slave, whether a Muslim or a polytheist, makes good deed Allâh will grant him/her in this life and in the afterlife. It is a thousand times impossible to do good deed to any party on earth, to whoever creature on earth and not get rewarded by Allâh; either in this life or in the afterlife. Honorable brothers, that is the first fact, because if you receive a favor from a human being, and because you are a believer, and because you have got some of perfection, you have nothing but to thank him/her, smile to him/her, be grateful to him/her, praise him/her. Then how is it with the owner of the absolute perfection? The creator of the heavens and the earth? The owner of the beautiful names and the best attributes? Honorable brothers, that is the first fact; if you do good deed to a creature; human or animal or plant, this good deed is stored with Allâh, and you are rewarded for it in this life or in the afterlife, or in both, and nothing is lost with Allâh the Almighty. That was the first fact for this great name.

Explanation of the Name, Ash-Shaakir, from Sheikh as-Sa’di:

The One who recoginises and rewards the small quantity of actions and the One who forgives the large quantity of sins. He is the One who multiplies the rewards of His sincere servants manifold without any measure. He is the one who recognises and rewards those who gives thanks to Him and remembers the one who remembers Him. Whosoever seeks to get close to Him by doing any righteous action, Allah draws closer to him by a greater degree.

Explanation of Ash-Shaheed from the book, “Who is Allah?“:

Allah (the Exalted) appreciates those who appreciate Him. He recognizes good deeds and rewards accordingly. Ibn Katheer commented about the significance of ‘Appreciative’: “meaning, Allah’s reward is immense for the little deed, and He knows about the sufficiency of the reward. Hence, He will not award insufficient rewards to anyone.” {Indeed, Allah does not do injustice, [even] as much as an atom’s weight; while if there is a good deed, He multiplies it and gives from Himself a great reward.} (Qur’an 4:40)

Knowing that Allah (the Exalted) is the Appreciative fills the believers’ hearts with love for Allah and hope of His reward. This knowledge inspires the Muslims to perform even the smallest of good deeds, knowing that Allah’s reward is great. Small good deeds should not be overlooked or treated as if they are of no consequence, because Allah (the Exalted) is the Appreciative and rewards the believers for such deeds.
