Explanation of the Name, Al-Hakeem, from Understand Quran Academy

Allah calls Himself Al-Hakeem— The All-Wise, The Judicious— on 33 occasions in the Quran. Al-Hakeem is the One with ultimate wisdom, who did not create and legislate anything in vain. Al-Hakeem carries out His divine will with His perfect wisdom: He judges, decrees, inflicts, and relieves in the most rightful way, place, and time. He is  all-wise in His creating and perfecting, in His commanding, His sayings and actions!

The All-Wise, The Ultimate Ruler and Designer

Hakeem and Haakim come from the root haa-kaaf-meem, which carries three main meanings. The first meaning is to restrict or prevent something or someone. The second main meaning of this root is that of being wise and of knowing the true nature of things. The third is to pass judgement, to decide and put matters in correct places. This root appears 210 times in the Quran in 13 derived forms. Examples of these forms areyahkumu (will judge), hukman (wisdom, judgement), and al hikmah (the wisdom).

This attribute of Allah shows that He legislates rules to turn mankind from wrongdoing, all His rules are for our own benefit. Al-Hakeem does His work most accurately and perfectly, as He knows how to calculate, measure and design in perfection.

Explanation of Al-Hakeem from Asma wa Sifaat Blog:

Excerpt:

And His saying, (…And He is al-Hakeem…) has two meanings.

The first of which is that he is the Judge (Haakim) between His creation, by way of His command that relates to the creation (al-amr al-kawnee) and His command that relates to the Sharee’ah (al-amr ash-shar’ee), in both this life and Hereafter.

The second meaning is that He is the one who is decisive, precise, exact, who perfects matters. And it is taken from “hikmah” which is to put something in its proper place. Hence, He, the Sublime, is the Judge (Haakim) between His servants, who has hikmah in both his creation (i.e. His act of creation) and His command (both kawnee and shar’ee). He did not create anything with no purpose, out of mere play, and nor did He command anything except that which is pure benefit, goodness.

Explanation of the Name, Al-Hakeem, from Islam Q & A:

Excerpt:

Al-Hakeem (the Wise). He is the One Who has ultimate wisdom, in His creation and in His commands. He is the One Who created everything well.

“… And who is better in judgement than Allaah for a people who have firm Faith.” [al-Maa’idah 5:50 – interpretation of the meaning].

He does not create anything in vain, or legislate anything in jest. He is the One Who has Dominion in this world and the next. His ruling applies in three major spheres, in which none else has any share with Him: He judges between His slaves by means of His Law, His decree and His reward/punishment.

Wisdom: He puts things in their rightful places and gives them their rightful status.

Explanation of the Name, Al-Hakeem, from Sheikh as-Sa’di:

Excerpt:

Al-Hakeem (The All-Wise)

He is the One to Whom belongs the highest wisdom, the One Who is All-Wise in His creating and commanding, Who perfected everything He created, “and Who is better than Allaah in judgement for a people who have firm faith?” (5:50)

Therefore He has created nothing out of mere frivolity and He has legislated nothing that is vain and of no use. The One to Whom belongs wisdom in the beginning and the end. He has three areas of ruling which nothing else has a share in: He rules between His servants with respect to His Law, His Decree and His  Recompense. Wisdom is to place something in its correct place.

“For those who believe not in the Hereafter is an evil description and for Allaah is the highest description. He is the All-Mighty, AllWise.” (16:60)

“It is He Who is the only God worshipped in the heaven and the on the earth. He is theAll-Wise, the All-Knowing.” (43:84)

Dua and remembrance to be said at any time #1

Sa’d bin Abu Waqqas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: A bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said to him, Teach me a few words to recite frequently. He (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘Say:

“None has the right to be worshipped except Allah alone, Allah is The Greater, and much praise is for Allah. How far from imperfections is Allah, The Lord of The Worlds. There is no might and no power except by the leave of Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Most wise.”

The bedouin said: “All of these for my lord (i.e. Allah), But what is for me? Thereupon he (Messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)) said: You should say:

“O Allah! Grant me pardon, have mercy upon me, direct me to righteousness and provide me subsistence”  …more.
